Rockland Green’s “Feet on the Street” program is our community-wide effort to help Rockland County residents improve the quantity and quality of items by recycling the right way and eliminating garbage from recycling bins!

And part of that is knowing which items go in which curbside recycling bin!

You have your blue bin and your green bin.

Your blue bin is for paper products, like:

  • Newspapers
  • Junk Mail
  • Envelopes
  • Notebooks
  • Magazines
  • Brown Grocery Bags
  • Drink Holders

Your green bin is for:

  • Bottles
  • Yogurt Cups
  • Kitchen, Bath, and Laundry Containers
  • Steel Cans
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Glass Bottles and Jars
  • Milk Cartons
  • Juice Cartons

Remember: These items need to be emptied and rinsed before placing them in the green bin.

What are some items you should never place in either bin?

  • Electrical Cords
  • Metal or Plastic Hangers
  • Used Paper Towels
  • Styrofoam
  • Clothing
  • Diapers
  • Used Paper Plates
  • And especially, no plastic bags!

Check our website for a full list of what goes in each bin and what shouldn’t!

Our Feet on the Street team is visiting neighborhoods in Rockland County to check how we’re doing with our recycling.

If a bin contains an unacceptable item, you may receive an “Oops!” sticker on the bin, and it will not be picked up until next time, but only if the right items are in the right bins!

Together, we can make Rockland County, Rockland Green!
